Job description

The Wildlife Service Technician plays a critical role in managing and mitigating human-wildlife interactions to promote safety and ecological balance. This position involves conducting fieldwork to monitor wildlife populations, assess habitats, and implement humane control measures when necessary. The technician collaborates with environmental agencies, landowners, and the public to provide education and support regarding wildlife issues. Through data collection and reporting, the technician contributes to conservation efforts and the development of effective wildlife management strategies. Ultimately, this role ensures the protection of both wildlife and human communities by applying scientific knowledge and practical skills in diverse outdoor environments across the United States.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in wildlife biology, environmental science, or related field is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains for extended periods.
  • Basic knowledge of local wildlife species, their behaviors, and habitat requirements.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with the public and team members.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in wildlife biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with wildlife trapping, handling, and relocation techniques.
  • Certification in wildlife control or related professional training.
  • Familiarity with geographic information systems (GIS) and data management software.
  • First aid and CPR certification.
Responsibilities:
  • Conduct field surveys to monitor wildlife species and their habitats, documenting observations accurately.
  • Implement wildlife control and exclusion techniques to resolve conflicts between animals and human activities safely and humanely.
  • Assist in the development and execution of wildlife management plans in coordination with environmental agencies and stakeholders.
  • Educate landowners, community members, and other stakeholders on wildlife behavior, prevention methods, and conservation practices.
  • Maintain detailed records of field activities, wildlife incidents, and control measures, preparing reports for regulatory compliance and program evaluation.
  • Operate and maintain specialized equipment and tools used in wildlife monitoring and control.
  • Respond promptly to wildlife-related emergencies or complaints, providing expert guidance and intervention as needed.
