Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a dedicated WIC Clerk to support enrollment, nutrition education and eligibility determinations in Western Washington. You will collect and review participant data, maintain accurate records, and coordinate with health staff to ensure timely food benefits.

Must be detail-oriented, able to work with diverse communities, and willing to travel in Western Washington as needed. BLS certification is required within 90 days of hire; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED diploma is required.
  • One year experience in WIC or related program desired.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment
  • Annual TB test required
  • Annual influenza vaccine required, subject to approved medical or religious exemption
  • Must sign an oath of permanent confidentiality covering patient-related information
  • Must receive a background check from the Washington State Patrol

Responsibilities

  • Enrolls and terminates WIC participants
  • Provides participant orientation and delivers WIC benefits
  • Maintains complete, up-to-date WIC charts and statistical program records
  • Interviews clients and reviews client history, anthropometric data, laboratory data, and eating habits
  • Performs screening procedures including weighing, measuring, hematocrit/hemoglobin testing, growth-grid plotting, and dietary evaluations
  • Determines WIC eligibility and nutrition risk factors
  • Refers high-risk clients and other clients to appropriate health or community resources
  • Provides individual and group nutrition education
  • Determines appropriate food packages and explains nutrient content of WIC foods
  • Identifies contracted food vendors and issues manual or computerized food benefits
  • Documents vendor and participant complaints and infractions
  • Assists with clerical, statistical, breastfeeding promotion, and community nutrition education activities
  • Attends meetings and participates in continuing education
  • Travels in Western Washington as needed

Job description

Requirements


  • High School or GED diploma

  • One year previous experience as WIC Clerk and/or in WIC program desired

  • Completion of the Minimum Paraprofessional Competencies defined by the Washington State WIC Program

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment

  • Annual TB test required

  • Pre-hire and annual employee health screening required

  • Annual influenza vaccine required, subject to approved medical or religious exemption

  • Must sign an oath of permanent confidentiality covering patient-related information

  • Must receive a background check from the Washington State Patrol

  • Ability to develop effective community and personnel relationships

  • Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups from diverse cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds

  • Ability to work patiently and empathetically with multicultural clientele

  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a health care team

  • Writing skills sufficient for communication with dietitians, receptionists, WIC coordinators, and participants

  • Bilingual, bicultural English/Spanish preferred

  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals

  • Ability to understand written, oral, diagram, and schedule-based instructions

  • Ability to travel in Western Washington

  • Ability to lift 35 pounds above 4 feet without assistance

  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal or desk for extended periods
