Great Lakes Bay Health Centers is seeking a WIC Program Assistant to perform laboratory and anthropometric procedures for certifications, manage data entry in MIWIC and MCIR, and assist in clinic operations. Responsibilities

  • Performs laboratory and anthropometric procedures for WIC certifications per MDCH/OSHA: height, weight, head circumference, hemoglobin, blood lead.
  • Enters data and lead results into MIWIC and GLBHC EMR; mails lead forms to sites.
  • Accesses MCIR for immunizations and lead status; prints MCIR reports as requested.
  • Answers phones, schedules appointments.
  • Assists receptionists to maintain clinic flow; greets clients; activates records in MIWIC.
  • Generates benefits and shopping lists; collects demographic data in MIWIC.
  • Maintains program materials and lab supplies; keeps work station stocked.
  • Directs clients to nutritionist/dietitian or other staff.
  • Stays current on breastfeeding policy; encourages breastfeeding.
  • If bilingual, translates for non-Spanish speaking providers.
  • Performs other duties to maintain WIC caseload, including outreach and Project Fresh.
  • Maintains a clean and uncluttered work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Performs laboratory and anthropometric procedures required for WIC certifications following MDCH/OSHA protocol: height, weight, head circumference, hemoglobin, and blood lead. Is responsible for completing and documenting the Quality Control measures required for the hematological procedures. (25%)
  • Enters collected data and lead results into both MIWIC and GLBHC’s Electronic Medical Record system. Completes all necessary documents for lead samples and mails completed lead forms to appropriate sites. (20%)
  • Accesses MCIR and retrieves immunizations and lead status information for client’s certification. Prints MCIR reports for certifications or as requested by staff and clients. (10%)
  • Answers telephones courteously and determines whether to redirect call or handle immediately. Schedules appointments. (10%)
  • Assists receptionists in maintaining clinic flow by: (10%)
  • Greeting clients and activating records in MIWIC.
  • Generating benefits and issuing shopping lists.
  • Collecting demographic data and entering into MIWIC.
  • Maintains supply of program materials and lab supplies. Keeps a well-stocked work station. (5%)

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Licensure: N/A
  • Experience: N/A
  • Skills: Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Must be organized and efficient in work habits.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Must demonstrate interest in health and nutrition and in the population served. Able to work and communicate effectively with a diverse population, including a wide age range.
  • Physical Effort: Must be able to sit, stand, and or walk for an entire workday. Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and or twist while holding up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
  • Hours of Work: Full-time: Monday through Friday. Some evenings during migrant season. Part-time or seasonal: Monday through Friday, some evenings during migrant season. Flexible and varied.
  • Travel: Some travel may be required within the project service area. Reimbursement consistent with GLBHC policy.
