WGL - Utilities Security Advisor

We have an immediate opening for a Utilities Security Advisor to support the development and implementation of corporate security programs to protect Washington Gas and SEMCO personnel, facilities, information, and operations.

Program Support & Risk Mitigation
  • Assist in implementing security programs across the organization in alignment with business needs and identified risks.
  • Support the development and monitoring of security policies, procedures, and control measures.
  • Help evaluate emerging threats and provide input into risk mitigation strategies and countermeasures.
  • Collaborate with HR, IT, Legal, and Operations to support integrated security solutions.
Executive Security & Travel Risk
  • Assist with executive security logistics and travel coordination.
  • Support the development and communication of travel advisories and risk briefings.
  • Help conduct risk assessments related to travel destinations, public events, or elevated threat conditions.
Insider Threat & Personnel Security
  • Monitor for indicators of potential insider threats and assist with triage and escalation procedures.
  • Coordinate background screening processes and assist with onboarding/offboarding security protocols.
  • Contribute to awareness efforts promoting a secure and ethical workplace culture.
Physical Security
  • Assist in conducting facility security assessments and inspections to evaluate physical access controls, visitor protocols, and guard force operations.
  • Support the rollout and maintenance of security systems, including card access, intrusion detection, and video surveillance.
  • Provide input on physical security improvements and vendor performance.
Security Operations & Incident Response
  • Participate in incident response planning and exercises, supporting investigations and reporting.
  • Assist in managing contractor performance during special events or heightened security operations.
  • Support emergency response coordination for security-related events, including protests, threats, or disruptions.
Security Training & Awareness
  • Support delivery of security awareness training and educational briefings for employees.
  • Assist with preparing executive briefings and security alerts.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of role-based security education.
Policy & Compliance
  • Help draft, review, and update corporate security policies and procedures.
  • Monitor adherence to applicable standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in policy awareness campaigns and documentation updates.
Facility & Asset Security Support
  • Maintain documentation related to security controls and critical facilities.
  • Track and follow up on findings from site assessments and audits.
  • Support efforts to maintain asset inventories and assess vulnerabilities.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, Security Management, Emergency Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Preferred certifications include PSP, CPP, CBCP, FEMA ICS, or DHS security-related training.
Work Experience

Required:

  • 5-8 years in security, law enforcement, military, or related roles.
  • Experience supporting security programs across multiple domains.
  • Involvement with facility security, incident response, or threat assessments.

Preferred:

  • Experience in utilities, energy, or critical infrastructure sectors.
  • Experience with executive protection or corporate travel risk programs.
  • Familiarity with legal, HR, or IT collaboration.
  • Experience with access control, guard operations, or security audits.
Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of physical, personnel security, and threat management practices.
  • Understanding of applicable regulations and best practices.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and documentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%, hold a valid driver's license, and be on-call for incidents.
  • Professional demeanor, confidentiality, and integrity.

Must be able to work in the WGL office 3-4 days per week.

We offer a salary range of $78,000 to $113,250, plus benefits including health insurance, retirement, and paid time off.
