What You Will Do

The Weapons Facilities Operations (WFO) Facility Operations Directorate (FOD) has a great opportunity for an Operations Specialist. The selected candidate will report to the WFO Program Manager (PM) serving as a member of WFO High Explosives Operations team. The Operations Specialist supports the effective implementation of facility and operational requirements affecting high explosives work within the WFO area of responsibility. The team emphasizes a hands-on, in the field approach for all aspects related to safety, fire hazard, and compliance requirements related to high explosives work.

The Weapons Facilities Operations (WFO) Facility Operations Directorate (FOD) has a great opportunity for an Operations Specialist. The selected candidate will report to the WFO Program Manager (PM) serving as a member of WFO High Explosives Operations team. The Operations Specialist supports the effective implementation of facility and operational requirements affecting high explosives work within the WFO area of responsibility. The team emphasizes a hands-on, in the field approach for all aspects related to safety, fire hazard, and compliance requirements related to high explosives work.

The selected candidate will serve as a liaison among programs, facility operations, and supporting organizations to ensure tactical facility-related requirements, actions, and infrastructure needs are effectively planned, coordinated, and completed, including but not limited to MSS work planning, development and implementation of HE Hazardous Work Permits (Form 3005) and Electrical Equipment Evaluations (Form 3009). Facilitate the development of High Explosives Waivers and other documentation necessary for subcontractors performing work within WFO.

The position will coordinate and lead the field implementation of explosives safety requirements, improvements, facility-related corrective actions. This includes translating established requirements into executable work, identifying the organizations and resources needed to complete that work, resolving implementation issues, and tracking actions through completion.

The selected candidate must understand explosives operations, facility requirements, and Laboratory work processes well enough to implement direction provided by the WFO PM and the appropriate technical and safety authorities. The position will work independently across organizational boundaries to ensure facility systems, infrastructure, and operational controls effectively support safe, reliable, and efficient explosives operations.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements

• Working knowledge of the Laboratory's facility operations policies, practices, and procedures, and can apply them to resolve issues.
• Working knowledge applicable high explosives safety regulations, e.g., knowledge of DOE-STD-1212 and P101-8, Explosives Safety.
• Working knowledge of LANL indoor and outdoor explosives operations and the facility systems, infrastructure, and operational controls required to support them.
• Demonstrated experience working independently without much direction.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate engineering, craft, fire protection, maintenance, and other support organizations; resolve implementation barriers; and lead complex actions through completion. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and experience interacting with all levels of personnel and customers.

Position typically requires a bachelor's degree and a minimum of eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.

Desired Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience translating established requirements, corrective actions, and operational needs into executable scopes of work and implementation plans.
• Previous qualification or experience as an explosive handler, firing leader, facility operations professional, explosives safety officer, or equivalent role.
• Demonstrated experience managing implementation schedules, tracking actions to completion, and communicating status, risks, and barriers to management.

Work Schedule

This position is full-time onsite and potential for on call. The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment

Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance: Q

(Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

Eligibility requirements

• To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test

The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
