Ideal candidates have 7–10 years of oil & gas land experience, direct Texas land expertise, and AAPL membership. This role emphasizes independent work within a collaborative Land team to drive value.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Land Management or Finance required.
  • 7–10 years of oil & gas land experience preferred.
  • Direct land experience in Texas required.
  • RL, RPL or CPL certification preferred.
  • AAPL membership required.

Responsibilities

  • Represent Magnolia in dealings with surface, mineral, royalty and working interest owners and regulatory agencies.
  • Research ownership of mineral rights using P2Land and legacy land data files and title opinions.
  • Identify opportunities, conflicts, and resolutions related to leasehold and mineral interests.
  • Prepare reports and maps for key commercial decisions based on ownership analysis.
  • Negotiate complex land agreements for exploration and development of mineral interests.

Job description

Reporting to the Vice President, Land & Land Acquisitions, the Landman will be responsible for the land component of oil and gas development associated with Magnolia’s existing assets. This position requires you to perform at a high-level working both independently and collaboratively within the Land team and other disciplines across the organization. You will be successful in this role if you enjoy being fully engaged and committed to delivering thorough, impactful, and solid results for any given task.

Responsibilities:
  • Represent Magnolia in dealing with key stakeholders including surface owners, mineral owners, royalty owners, non-operating working interest owners, and regulatory agencies.
  • Utilize P2Land data system and other legacy land data files, records, and title opinions to research and determine ownership of mineral rights and interests.
  • Use of industry and technical expertise to identify opportunities, conflicts, recommended solutions, and resolutions to issues that may arise from the ownership of leasehold and mineral interests.
  • Based on an analysis of ownership rights and interest, prepare reports and maps useful to your team, peers, and/or leaders for making key commercial decisions.
  • Expert negotiation of business agreements for the exploration and development of mineral interest with a comprehensive understanding of the impact the negotiated deal points have on the agreement’s commercial and economic value.
  • Research and analyze land related documents and contracts with respect to drilling, production, and operations information, including but not limited to, depths held by production, continuous development obligations, critical activity dates, etc.
  • Monitor and guide external parties including field brokers, title attorneys and surveyors to meet project deadlines within budgets and company requirements.
  • Interact and provide the subsurface operations teams with a high-level of Land support and information critical to ongoing development of assets for accomplishing company goals and objectives within budgetary guidelines.
  • Responsible for supporting and developing relationships with internal cross-functional teams, including engineering, geology, marketing, accounting, regulatory, land administration, and other functional counterparts as needed for managing rights and/or obligations from ownership of leasehold and mineral interests.
  • Collaborate with the Legal team, when necessary, in preparation of complex and non-standard type contracts.
  • Collaborate with Land Administration staff to guide the preparation of division of interest setup for proper billing and payment to external owners, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Utilize innovative tools to support company efforts for streamlining processes and improving land maintenance and reporting.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred area of study in Land Management or Finance.
  • 7-10 years of experience as an oil & gas company Landman, preferred.
  • Direct land experience in and knowledge of Texas land required.
  • RL, RPL or CPL Certification, preferred.
  • Member of AAPL, required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • System savvy and ability to work with different applications and databases.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ArcGIS programs.
  • Demonstrates taking ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by handling critical issues, holding others accountable and doing the right thing in all cases.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced organization being adaptable to competing demands.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, yet cooperatively and constructively, in a team environment.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of geology, engineering, accounting, and regulatory responsibilities as they apply to the oil and gas industry.
  • Creative thinker and problem solver with a demonstrated ability to evaluate complex issues and provide both an original and practical range of solutions.
