Job summary

Melody is hiring a bioelectronics engineer to build and run our foundry approach that integrates protein biosensor and device engineering. You will own the wet side of the interface, performing hands-on work to advance integration from protein to in vivo experiments and guiding development toward real-world performance.

You will lead cross-disciplinary efforts, map R&D workflows, and help implement instrumentation strategies for biosensor readouts, including optical and electrochemical sensing.

Qualifications

• PhD in a relevant science/engineering field or BS/MS with extensive industry experience (>5 years).
• Deep expertise across two or more areas: protein engineering, surface chemistry, hydrogels or biomaterials, optical/electrochemical biosensing, microfluidics, or related.
• Ability to build or customize instrumentation for protein biophysics, optics, and electrochemistry.
• Strong experimental design and quantitative judgment under real-world constraints.
• Excellent cross-disciplinary technical communication and project management.

Responsibilities

• Lead wetware integration strategy across biosensor proteins, surface chemistry, hydrogels, membranes, and readout hardware.
• Design diagnostic experiments to distinguish biosensor failure from other failure modes.
• Execute directed evolution workflows and guide protein design based on results.
• Synthesize or adapt materials for bioelectronics interfaces.
• Collaborate with hardware team to merge devices with proteins and materials.
• Help automate fabrication and assay workflows using robotics.
