Job summary

State of Vermont seeks a Wetlands Ecologist (Environmental Analyst III) for a temporary, part-time position in Montpelier. The role focuses on regulatory review of wetlands, desktop mapping to locate protected wetlands, and providing guidance to landowners and developers.

Strong communication and GIS skills are essential, with telework possible after in-person training. Start late November to early December, end by June 30, with up to 1280 hours per year.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field.
• OR Three (3) years or more of experience in an engineering, environmental, social science, data science, or natural resources field.

Responsibilities

• Support wetland regulatory review to ensure compliance with Vermont Wetland Rules.
• Complete desktop mapping reviews to locate protected wetlands and provide regulatory guidance to landowners and developers.
• Communicate daily with landowners, municipalities, consultants, and government colleagues regarding wetland protections.
• Review, prioritize, respond to, and document public inquiries.
