Job summary

Middlebury College is seeking a Leadership Gifts Officer to increase fundraising capacity through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors $100K+. The role covers alumni and language schools, MIIS, and Bread Loaf alumni, with domestic travel and West Coast regional focus.

The position is full-time, benefits-eligible, exempt, with a starting salary range of $67,700–$84,700 per year and the option for remote or hybrid work.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, including soliciting and closing gifts.
• Knowledge of institutional advancement and advanced fundraising techniques, including planned giving.
• Strong writing and verbal skills.
• Ability to motivate and collaborate with staff and volunteers.
• Ability to work independently and make decisions.
• Must handle confidential materials with appropriate discretion.

Responsibilities

• Maintain oversight of a pool of Leadership Gifts prospects ($100K+), nurturing gifts and stewardship.
• Build relationships with alumni, parents, and friends to secure philanthropic support.
• Cultivate relationships with a broad network including Language Schools, MIIS, and Bread Loaf alumni.
• Develop funding proposals and negotiate complex gifts to maximize value for the institution.
• Prepare briefings, stewardship plans, and correspondence for prospects.
• Solicit annual gifts via personal visits or volunteer-led solicitations.
• Collaborate with Annual Giving and Gift Planning to grow leadership support and estate intentions.
