Job summary

Wellmark YMCA in Des Moines is seeking part-time Wellness Center Staff to help monitor the Wellness Center, assist members, and promote engagement in YMCA programs. You will provide equipment instruction, maintain a safe environment, and support staff training.

The role requires 1 year of customer service, basic computer skills, and CPR/First Aid certification (or equivalent) before starting, with shifts including early mornings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Basic computer skills including time clock and online training.
• Ability to read, write, and perform simple math.
• One year of customer service experience.
• Previous fitness/wellness experience preferred.
• CPR/PR/AED/First Aid certification or equivalent before start.
• Child Abuse Awareness training required before starting.

Responsibilities

SHIFTS AVAILABLE:

Various shifts available including early morning & weekends. 4-20 hours per week

PAY RATE:

$10.25-$11.75+/hour depending on experience and skills

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Wellness Center Staff will be responsible for facilitating member involvement and relationship building, monitoring activities in the Wellness Center, assisting members with questions and issues, and providing basic equipment instruction. Wellness Center Staff are responsible for exemplifying professionalism, serving as a resource for members and guests, and providing excellent customer service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Monitor the Wellness Center areas to ensure a safe, hazard-free environment, addressing safety issues as directed.
• Continuously monitor Wellness Center areas to assist members with questions and issues.
• Continuously facilitate member involvement by actively seeking opportunities to build relationships.
• Actively promote member engagement by encouraging involvement in related Y programs and small communities.
• Assume a leadership role for members, demonstrating professionalism and equipment expertise.
• Encourage and support members as they strive to attain their personal fitness and wellness goals.
• Ensure cleanliness and tidiness of the Wellness Center areas by cleaning equipment, desks, and all surface areas regularly.
• Assist, as required, with training and orientation of new Y staff.
• Know all emergency procedures and be able to demonstrate them.
• Complete accident/incident reports and submit to supervisor or designated staff person.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
• Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be at least 16 years of age
• Perform basic computer skills such as using the computerized time clock and online training requirements.
• Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions
• One year previous customer service experience
• Previous fitness and/or wellness experience preferred
• American Red Cross CPR-PR/AED/First Aid Certifications or equivalent certifications approved by the YMCA-completed if hired and prior to start
• Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Training - prior to starting if hired and maintained annually.
• Additional training to be assigned and completed within 30 days and maintained afterwards.
