The YMCA of Greater Spartanburg is looking for passionate health and fitness professionals to join our team at the Thomas E. Hannah and Willis Road YMCA branches.
Consistent with the Christian Mission and Vision of the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg, and in cooperation with our other YMCA branch staff, the Wellness Specialist is responsible for serving members in the areas of health and fitness. This person will assist members as they exercise or participate in other Wellness activities. Explain how the equipment operates and the benefits of exercise forms (free weights, plate-loaded stations, treadmills, ellipticals, bicycles, and group exercise classes). Ensure that the fitness area is presentable throughout the day, straighten, organize, tidy, clean and sanitize.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
·Provide excellent member service by exceeding member expectations; greet and acknowledge all members to encourage wellness participation.
•Build relationships with members and assisting members with the safe and effective operation of all cardiovascular and strength equipment.
•Demonstrate proper form, technique and body alignment on all equipment as instructed by Wellness Director.
•Ensure that member activity allows others to exercise in a safe and comfortable environment.
•Assist with member on-boarding activities such as the Ready, Set, Move! Program to conduct fitness assessments and introduce members to various YMCA fitness programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have achieved a high school diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Must have current Adult CPR, AED and First Aid certifications, or complete within first 30 days of employment.
• Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and be professional and polite at all times.
• Must accept and demonstrate the YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
• Must have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
• Must have knowledge of and experience with exercise equipment and physical education principles.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•Associates Degree or completed coursework in health, kinesiology, or sports sciences
