Job summary

San Diego State University is seeking a Fitness & Wellness Supervisor to oversee comprehensive fitness and instructional class programs. You will recruit, train, schedule, and evaluate staff while coordinating semester schedules and events across wellness initiatives.

The role requires leadership in operations, risk and fiscal management, and collaboration with marketing to promote programs. A strong background in college recreation and related certifications is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in recreation, exercise science, physical education, kinesiology or related field.
• Master's Degree preferred.
• Two years of group fitness class instruction experience required (or two years Graduate Assistantship).
• Two years supervisory/management experience required.
• Experience supervising instructors and administering fitness-related recreation programs preferred.
• Experience in a college campus recreation environment preferred.
• Nationally recognized group fitness certification (ACSM, AFAA, NSCA, ACE or equivalent) required.
• American Red Cross CPR, First Aid and AED certification required (within 30 days).
• Instructor certification preferred.
• trainings listed (Anti-Harassment, Workplace Violence Prevention, Data Security & Privacy, Gender Awareness) must be completed within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of Fitness and Wellness programs.
• Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate program assistants and instructors.
• Coordinate and program the Fitness, Wellness, and Instructional Class schedule for each semester.
• Manage program assistants' schedules and tasks weekly and daily.
• Plan staff meetings and disseminate information to staff.
• Use Virtual EMS to reserve facilities and Virtual CMS to input schedules on website.
• Use Fusion to create classes and input class details for registration.
• Design and distribute program surveys and compile data.
• Ensure customer service standards and respond to member feedback.
• Develop programming for special events and collaborate with Marketing for photography/videography.
