Job summary

South Buffalo Charter School is seeking an hourly Wellness Initiatives Coordinator (WIS) to coordinate activities, events, publications, and marketing that align with the SBCS Wellness Policy and after-school events. The WIS will join the SBCS Wellness Team, work with staff on budgeting and timelines, and seek and write grants for wellness initiatives.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required. Associate's degree Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from leadership/staff/students/families/general public.
  • Ability to stay within budget constraints and carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Confidentiality of student, staff, and family matters is required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop monthly themes for school wellness initiatives.
  • Collaborate with local organizations to build wellness partnerships.
  • Seek out and make application for grants involving any and all forms of wellness.
  • Utilize monthly themed events to increase student and family knowledge of wellness, increase participation within the school, and improve attendance at events.
  • Create rubrics to determine success of initiatives with areas for growth.
  • Coordinate with SBCS food service providers, health insurance providers, sports teams, leadership team, and other relevant organizations on health initiatives.
  • Create events that support all parts of the SBCS Wellness Policy and make recommendations for revisions.
  • Coordinate with any existing programs involving mental health, recycling, wellness days, food security, etc.
  • Keep a log of hours worked, communications, budgeting for needs per instance.
  • Report to the Superintendent on progress of meeting goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Title: Wellness Initiatives Coordinator (WIS)

Job Description: The WIS position is an hourly position that may utilize between 10 and 25 hours per month. The WIS will coordinate activities, events, publications, and marketing that coincide with the SBCS Wellness Policy and after school events. The WIS will be a member of the SBCS Wellness Team, work with SBCS staff on budgeting and creating timelines, as well as seek and write grants for wellness initiatives. The WIS will coordinate partnerships with local organizations to increase the lifelong success and overall well-being of the students enrolled at SBCS. The WIS may conduct some administrative duties, support school wellness policies, create initiatives and activities within the school community while working closely with multiple stakeholders.

Summary of examples of skills and tasks to be performed by the Wellness initiatives Coordinator:
  • Responsible for developing monthly themes for school wellness initiatives. The themes should involve some of the following: music, arts, foods, nutrition, exercise, history, science, sports, and supporting varies levels of mental and physical health. Once the themes are established the WIS will create goals for theme.
  • Collaborate with local organizations to build partners in wellness.
  • Seek out and make application for grants involving any and all forms of wellness.
  • Utilize monthly themed events to increase student and family knowledge of wellness, increase participation within the school, and improve attendance at events.
  • Create rubrics to determine success of initiatives with areas for growth.

Rate of Pay:

SBCS hourly stipend rate of $35 per hour. Number of hours will vary per month.
