About the Role

Are you passionate aboutpreventative wellness and social-emotional support for students? Mending Matters is seeking a dedicated Certified Wellness Coach (CWC)to be an integral part of a tiered mental health support system. As an extension of the school's mental health specialist, you will provide direct support, focusing on wellness education, skill-building, and proactive support for students not in active crisis. This role is key to ensuring students receive timely and appropriate guidance to enhance their overall school success.

Key Responsibilities

As a Certified Wellness Coach, you will focus on low-intensity interventions (Tier 1 and Tier 2 support) across several vital areas:

Direct Student Support:

  • Deliversocial-emotional and behavioral support servicesthrough brief wellness check-ins, individual coaching, facilitate small groups, and immediate de-escalation for students experiencing emotional distress.

Case Management & Referrals:

  • Manage astudent caseload, providing necessary interventions, makingreferrals to other mental health supportswhen appropriate, andmaintaining clear, accurate documentationof all interactions.

Family & Staff Collaboration:

  • Collaborateclosely withschool stafftocoordinate comprehensive student care,engage familiesand provide them withcommunity resources, attend relevant student meetings (e.g., SSTs, 504s), and offerbilingual support/translationas needed.
What You'll Need (Qualifications)
  • Education:Associate’s Degree or higher, with preferred degree major in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or a related field, and adequate work and/or volunteer experience providing services in relevant fields to meet certification requirements.
  • Certification:Must have an active certification/ Meet qualifications to be registered as aCalifornia Certified Wellness Coach.
  • Experience:
    • 0-2+ years of experienceworking in a school, health, or community setting, preferably with children and adolescents ages 5-18.
    • Experience working with students, families, and community health/social service agencies.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of adolescent development and behavioral health issues.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to establish positive, trusting rapport and maintain appropriate boundaries with students.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
    • Proficient in English (required);Fluent in a second language (preferred).
