Position Summary
Join a passionate team dedicated to transforming lives through health and wellness. As a Wellness Coach at the YMCA of Southern NC, you will create a welcoming environment, guide members toward healthier lives, and build community connections.
Essential Functions
- Build relationships: greet members, introduce like‑interested individuals, answer questions, and thank members for their participation.
- Monitor fitness areas, provide orientations, assist members with workouts, and check in members for classes.
- Ensure safety: report suspicious activity or potential child abuse and adhere to the code of conduct.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the facility, equipment, and supplies, and report maintenance needs.
- Represent the YMCA professionally and maintain a positive public image.
- Wear appropriate dress including closed‑toed shoes, no hats, and a nametag while on duty.
- Know emergency procedures and be able to administer CPR/AED and first aid.
- Supervise and control occupancy and traffic flow on all equipment.
- Confirm and reschedule wellness orientations, make follow‑up calls, and verify appointments.
- Participate in team meetings and trainings; maintain open communication with supervisors.
- Assist in maintaining equipment and reporting breakage or needed replacements.
Physical Demands
- Demonstrate various cardio and strength equipment.
- Perform daily physical tasks including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting a minimum of 45 lbs.
Safety Requirements
- Maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Respond quickly to emergency situations following established procedures.
- Report all safety incidents and hazards immediately.
- Commit to a safe, clean, hazard‑free environment for staff, members, and participants.
- Perform physical tasks related to safety as required.
- Follow all YMCA safety protocols, OSHA standards, and applicable regulations.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old; GED preferred.
- Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- At least one year of coaching experience preferred.
