Job summary

Community Memorial Hospital, Hamilton is seeking a fitness and wellness program coordinator to apply anatomy, physiology, and kinesthesia knowledge to plan individualized activity programs and monitor progress for center members.

You will motivate clients, promote sanitary practices, and work with leadership to grow membership while maintaining program quality and safety. CPR/AED certification is required and adherence to center standards is essential.

Qualifications

  • AAS in Human Performance and Health Promotion is required.
  • BS in Physical Education or equivalent education and training is required.
  • Certification training in CPR and AED is required.

Responsibilities

  • See that the facility heating, lighting and water service is working and perform custodial/maintenance tasks for a healthy and sanitary environment.
  • Evaluate new clients to determine activity levels and plan programs that meet goals and abilities.
  • Monitor and assist daily/weekly activity and plan a review with each client for potential adjustments.
  • Implement programs to motivate clients to care for equipment after use.
  • Layout work of clients including correcting, counseling, and overseeing equipment use.
  • If necessary, schedule clients at low attendance times to accommodate need.
  • Encourage clients to recruit new members and maintain a positive program image.
  • Perform blood pressure measurements as requested for workout session records.
  • Inspect equipment and inform governor of needs; complete reports timely.

Job description


  • Possess a thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology and kinesthesia movement

  • Ability to evaluate and plan/layout programs of activity for each member according to his/her need and ability, including correcting, counseling, implementing and evaluating individual performance

  • Work with clients to motivate them to meet their well-being goals

  • Current knowledge of best practices for a fitness and wellness program, use of equipment, instruction and terminology associated with the operation of exemplary fitness and wellness programs

  • Demonstrated ability to use the written and spoken word to communicate with center members, and others

  • Ability to follow oral and written directions/instructions as provided by the Transition Governing Board Chairperson, and the ability to successfully communicate with others through oral and written directions and instructions

  • Ability to always maintain a clean and healthy environment to meet the Center's high standards for equipment, and the physical plant

  • Awareness and willingness to promote client use of sanitizing materials following use of equipment

  • Ability to promote membership growth

  • Thoroughness and promptness, including timely completion on client attendance, perform monthly preventive maintenance on equipment, participate recruiting activities and other reports as requested by the board from time to time

  • Possess and submit valid and current CPR and AED certification. If out of compliance, there certifications must be completed within 45 days of the opening of the center

  • Ability to interact with clients, the public, and the board in a positive and appropriate manner

Typical Duties


  • See that the facility heating, lighting and water service is working and perform custodial/maintenance tasks that may be needed for a healthy and sanitary environment.

  • Evaluate new clients to determine activity levels and plan a program that will meet their goals and their abilities

  • Monitor and assist daily/weekly activity of clients and plan a review with each requesting client for possible activity modifications to improve health and wellness performance.

  • Implement a program to motivate clients to care for equipment after each use.

  • Layout the work of clients including correcting, counseling of individuals, and oversee their appropriate use of equipment.

  • When necessary, clients in need of individual assistance should be scheduled at low attendance times.

  • Encourage clients to recruit new clients and present a positive image of the program to potential new members.

  • Upon request of a client, perform blood pressure measurements to provide recording of client performance record keeping for each workout session.

  • Periodically inspect equipment, prepare and inform the Managing Governor of equipment/facility needs.

  • Complete and submit reports as directed by the Managing Governor in a timely manner, such as member daily attendance in half hour intervals, and guests, including contract tracing records. Retain records for 28 days.

  • Inform the Managing Governor of center program needs each June and January or sooner if the need is critical.

  • Complete accreditation/certification for at least one professional growth activity annually after receiving advanced authorization from the Managing Governor.

  • Perform such additional tasks to the above list as the board may find acceptable and appropriate.

  • Inform the Managing Governor when supplies needed to be ordered.

  • Adhere to the calendar for days and hours of operation when the center is open as established by the Governing Board. Submission to the Managing Governor requests for vacation time, change in the calendar, or personal days at least two days ahead of the date being requested.

  • BS in Physical Educations or equivalent education and training

  • Possession of certification training in CPR and AED is required.
