Job summary

giwx offers a structured welding trainee program designed to teach shop safety and the fundamentals of Flux Cored Arc Welding (F.C.A.W.). The four-to-six-week indoor training leads to potential placement in either the Complex Fabrication or Marine department depending on performance.

Participants will learn to safely set up and operate welding gear, weld in multiple positions, and assess welds for specification compliance.

Qualifications

• Basic math skills; ability to convert fractions.
• Ability to read a tape measure.
• Ability to follow verbal/written instructions.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers/trainers.
• Motivated to continuously improve and learn new skills.

Responsibilities

• Learn to safely and properly set up and operate welding and burning equipment.
• Learn to safely produce quality welds in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions.
• Learn to fit, tack, and weld component parts in position, and examine welds for adherence to specification.
• Pass successfully 1/16" flux core wire in all positions with unlimited thickness plate to become Fitter/Welder.
