Job summary

Amsted Rail – Granite City facility is seeking a skilled welder to perform welding per AWS practices on castings and steel grades. The role involves defect identification/removal, use of carbon arc equipment, cutting torches, and finishing with proper gauging and documentation.

You will read drawings, operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and assist with hydrostatic testing prep. This non-exempt, full-time position offers union-based wage progression under the CBA and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Welding experience per AWS practices preferred.
• Ability to read gauge application drawings and apply gauges.
• Read/interpret castings requirements; follow CWI/specified procedures.

Responsibilities

• Weld per AWS practices on all castings and grades of steel.
• Identify defects and remove per AWS and ASF specs.
• Use carbon arc machinery for defect removal and identification.
• Cut with cutting torch/rosebud for local repairs and preparation.
• Identify, chip, grind, and blend surface discontinuities per ASF specs.
• Weld attachments as per casting requirements and CWI procedures.
• Map defects on documentation and verify weld mappings.
• Visually confirm repairs and document results.
• Operate gauges on patterns and ensure documentation.
• Operate overhead cranes/hoists as needed.
• Load/unload castings from blast machine and move with forklift.
• Chain and labor tasks as assigned by management.
• Operate paint guns and cleaning units for casting finishing.
• Run gauges and record results; assist prep for hydrostatic testing.
