Job summary

Whirlwind Steel Buildings Inc in Alabama is seeking an experienced Welding Quality Inspector to ensure structural welds meet codes and internal standards. You will oversee inspections, qualify welders, review drawings, and support continuous improvement in a fast-paced fabrication environment.

Qualifications

• Active AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) required.
• Experience inspecting structural steel in fabrication settings.
• Ability to interpret welding symbols and technical drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-process and final weld inspections to verify conformance with standards.
• Evaluate weld fit-up, joint prep, and workmanship.
• Certify and requalify welders across processes (SAW, FCAW, GMAW, MCAW).
• Review blueprints and weld symbols for proper execution.
• Maintain inspection records and ensure documentation accuracy.
• Identify nonconforming welds and support resolutions with production teams.
• Coordinate or assist with nondestructive testing (UT, MT, PT).
• Contribute to corrective actions with inspection findings.
• Support audits by preparing quality documentation.
• Promote adherence to internal quality standards and continuous improvement.
