Job summary

DISHER partners with a Grand Rapids based manufacturer to recruit a Welding/Manufacturing Engineer. The role focuses on optimizing welding operations on the production floor and driving process improvements to develop skilled welders.

You will lead welding process development, trials, and WPS management while collaborating with production, quality, and leadership teams to sustain growth and quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Welding Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years in welding or fabrication environments.
  • Hands-on welding knowledge and troubleshooting ability.
  • Expertise in TIG, spot, and projection welding.
  • Experience developing and troubleshooting Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS).
  • Desire to coach welders and develop technical skills.
  • Ability to diagnose root causes and implement solutions.
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to collaborate with production, quality, and leadership teams.
  • Must have right to work in the United States without restrictions.

Responsibilities

  • Spend 80-85% of time on the production floor supporting daily operations and troubleshooting welding challenges.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain welding processes for new and existing products.
  • Perform weld trials and process validation activities.
  • Mentor and coach welders to grow skills and confidence.
  • Develop and maintain Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS) for thin gauge and aluminum.
  • Manage welder qualifications and certifications for compliance and readiness.
  • Design fixtures and optimizations for thin gauge material welding.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives and recommend equipment or method changes.

DISHER is currently partnering with a precision perforated tubing and welded assemblies manufacturer in Grand Rapids on their need for a Welding/Manufacturing Engineer. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on the production floor and is passionate about optimizing welding operations while developing the next generation of skilled welders. You'll spend 80-85% of your time on the floor working supporting welding, while also taking ownership of process improvement initiatives.

  • Comfortable developing, updating, and troubleshooting Weld Procedure Specifications.
  • Desire to coach welders and develop their technical skills.
  • Ability to diagnose root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Experience in continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to collaborate with production, quality, and leadership teams.
  • Must have the current and continuing right to work in the United States of America without restrictions or expirations.
