Job summary

Johnson County Community College’s Lab Technician MFAB supports welding courses by preparing the lab, ensuring safety, and providing organized spaces for learning. The role includes preparing welding materials to AWS specs, setting up class labs, stocking supplies, and coordinating with instructors to meet schedule needs.

You may operate a forklift, perform inspections, manage inventory and invoices, enforce safety protocols, and assist with student guidance.

Qualifications

• Performs advanced tasks under minimal supervision.
• May mentor less-experienced team members.
• 5+ years of related experience.

Responsibilities

• Mechanically prepare welding materials to code specs for AWS certifications.
• Operate forklift to unload materials.
• Troubleshoot errors and coordinate equipment service or replacement.
• Fabricate fixtures and jigs with precision.
• Stock welding materials and PPE, set up labs and class spaces.
• Take inventory and restock welding supplies; liaise with vendors.
• Research invoices and resolve discrepancies.
• Enforce safety protocols and maintain compliant work areas.
• Provide welding guidance to students and assist instructors.
