Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Certified Welding Inspector II to hold accept/reject authority on structural steel, pipe, and welded assemblies, inspecting to AWS D1.1, D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104 as required.

The role includes witnessing welder qualification tests, reviewing WPS/PQR, directing NDT, writing inspection reports, and traveling to project sites with per diem.

Qualifications

• Must hold current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) with at least 2 years’ inspection experience.
• Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 and at least one of D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104.
• ICC structural steel and bolting inspector certification is a plus.
• Ability to defend rejection decisions to fabricator and document them for retest closure.

Responsibilities

• Perform and sign visual weld inspections with rejection authority per governing code.
• Review WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records.
• Witness welder qualification tests.
• Direct and interpret nondestructive testing.
• Write inspection and nonconformance reports for the engineer and building official.
• Inspect fabrication shops and field erection, including bolting and grout where certified.
