Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding. You will verify fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance, perform visual inspection, and maintain inspection logs while on active job sites.

The position supports AWS CAWI certification with company sponsorship and offers travel with per diem as needed. The role requires the ability to work at height and in confined spaces on erector sites.

Qualifications

• AWS CAWI certification or 3+ years welding or welding inspection experience and eligibility for the CWI exam.
• Reads structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Physically able to work at height, in confined spaces, on active erection sites.
• Careful, consistent, and honest about what a weld looks like.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Coordinate nondestructive testing with the NDT technician and record results.
