Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I who works under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welds, verifying fit-up, WPS compliance, and welder qualifications while performing visual inspections to AWS D1.1. Weld maps and inspection logs are maintained throughout the process.

The role provides growth toward Welding Inspector II with sponsorship for the AWS CWI exam; readiness to travel and perform inspections on active projects is required.

Qualifications

• AWS Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI) or 3+ years welding or inspection experience and eligibility to sit for the CWI exam.
• Ability to read structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Physically able to work at height, in confined spaces, and on active steel erection sites.
• Be careful, consistent, and honest about weld appearance and quality.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) with the NDT technician and record results.
