Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under the supervision of a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding. You will verify fit-up, inspect welds, and maintain inspection logs, tying each weld to a welder, procedure, and result.

The role prepares you for the AWS CWI exam with company sponsorship and clear advancement toward Welding Inspector II; occasional travel to project sites may be involved while meeting safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• AWS CAWI certification or eligible to sit for the CWI exam.
• Ability to read structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Capable of working at height and in confined spaces.
• Meticulous about weld appearance and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1 or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) with the NDT technician and record results.
