Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to support a supervising Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding, ensuring fit-up and joint preparation meet specifications and recording weld data for traceability.

You will read drawings and weld symbols, verify welder credentials, and perform visual inspections per AWS D1.1 or governing codes while maintaining logs; sponsorship for CWI exam is provided.

Qualifications

• CAWI or 3+ years welding or welding inspection experience and eligibility for the CWI exam.
• Ability to read structural drawings, weld symbols and WPS/PQR documents.
• Physically able to work at height, in confined spaces, on active erection sites.
• Honest and careful in assessing weld appearance and quality.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) with the NDT technician and record results.
