Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Welding Inspector I to work under a CWI on structural steel and pipe welds. You will verify fit-up, preheat, WPS compliance, perform visual inspections, and maintain weld maps and logs on active sites in Charleston, WV.

Under supervision, you'll confirm welder qualifications, monitor consumable control and equipment calibration, and coordinate with NDT technicians. The role requires physical work at height and on site, with travel to project sites as needed,

Qualifications

• AWS CAWI certification, or 3+ years welding/inspection experience and eligibility for CWI exam.
• Reads structural drawings and weld symbols, understands WPS/PQR documents.
• Physically able to work at height, in confined spaces, on active sites.
• Careful, consistent, and honest about weld quality.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under CWI supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) with the NDT technician and record results.
