Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welds. You will verify fit-up, inspect welds, check welder qualifications, and maintain inspection logs.

This role requires reading drawings, WPS/PQR, and performing visual inspections to applicable codes. The position includes travel to active erection sites, possible night shifts, and overtime; sponsorship for AWS CWI exam is provided.

Qualifications

• CAWI certification or 3+ years welding inspection experience.
• Reads structural drawings and weld symbols, WPS/PQR documents.
• Able to work at height, in confined spaces, on active sites.
• Careful and honest about weld quality.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under CWI supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate nondestructive testing (UT, MT, PT) with NDT technician and record results.
