Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I in Augusta, GA to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding. You will verify fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance, perform visual inspections, and maintain weld maps and logs to support CWI decisions.

The role sponsors the AWS CWI exam and advances toward Welding Inspector II; travel may be involved on project sites and overtime is possible depending on schedule.

Qualifications

• CAWI certification or eligibility for CWI exam.
• Ability to read structural drawings, weld symbols, WPS and PQR documents.
• Able to work at height, in confined spaces, on active steel erection sites.
• Attention to detail in weld appearance and quality.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under supervision to AWS D1.1, D1.5, or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) with the NDT technician and record results.
