Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under a CWI, verifying fit-up, procedures, and weld quality on structural steel and pipe projects. The role includes keeping inspection logs and coordinating with NDT technicians, with growth toward Welding Inspector II as you gain certifications.

The position requires the ability to read drawings and weld symbols, perform visual inspections, and maintain thorough records.

Qualifications

• CAWI certification or 3+ years welding/inspection experience and eligibility to sit for the CWI exam.
• Ability to read structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR documents.
• Physically able to work at height, in confined spaces, on active erection sites.
• Careful, consistent, and honest about weld quality.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspections under CWI supervision to AWS codes.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT/MT/PT) with NDT technician and record results.
