Job summary

Construction Material Testing in Carmel, IN seeks a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding. You will verify fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance, check welder qualifications, and maintain weld maps and logs.

You will perform visual inspection to AWS D1.1 or governing code, coordinate with NDT, and work toward Welding Inspector II as the company sponsors the AWS CWI exam.

Qualifications

• Aw s CAWI certification or eligibility for CWI exam.
• Ability to read structural drawings, weld symbols, and WPS/PQR.
• Physical ability for height, confined spaces, and active job sites.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under CWI supervision to AWS D1.1 or governing code.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT/MT/PT) testing with NDT technician and record results.
