Job summary

NLB Services is seeking motivated Certified Welding Inspectors (CWI) to support infrastructure, bridge, and structural steel fabrication projects nationwide. Travel and flexible hours, including nights and weekends, are required to meet project deadlines.

Ideal candidates hold an AWS CWI and a High School Diploma or GED; AMPP certification is a plus. Strong communication, transport, and safety skills are essential for field inspections and reporting.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Current AWS CWI certification is required.
  • AMPP certification is preferred.
  • Experience inspecting structural steel or bridges is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural steel welding inspections per AWS D1.1 and project specs.
  • Verify compliance with welding procedures and inspector documentation.
  • Monitor shop activities to ensure alignment with contracts and standards.
  • Prepare daily inspection reports and maintain documentation
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to the project team.
  • Collaborate with project managers and QA staff to meet schedules.

Job description

Position Type: Full-Time with Overtime Potential

Client is seeking motivated and qualified Certified Welding Inspectors (CWI) to support our growing portfolio of infrastructure, bridge, and structural steel fabrication projects. This is a nationwide opportunity for inspectors who are detail-oriented, self-driven, and committed to quality assurance in complex fabrication environments. Candidates must be open to travel and flexible work schedules, including night shifts and weekends as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform structural steel welding inspections in accordance with AWS D1.1 and project specifications
  • Verify compliance with approved welding procedures and inspector documentation
  • Monitor fabrication shop activities and ensure alignment with contract documents and industry standards
  • Prepare clear, accurate daily inspection reports and maintain organized documentation
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to the client's project team and clients
  • Collaborate with project managers and quality assurance staff to meet deliverables and schedules

Qualifications:

Education & Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED – Required
  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) – Required
  • AMPP (formerly NACE) certification – Preferred

Experience:

  • Structural steel or bridge fabrication inspection – Preferred

Skills & Requirements:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound judgment and decision-making ability
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and digital reporting platforms
  • Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Willingness to travel frequently and work in variable conditions, including fabrication shops and outdoor sites
  • Ability to lift 25+ lbs., climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or elevated positions.
