Job description


Supplier Quality plays a crucial role in ensuring high-quality products are delivered to customers. Supplier Quality is responsible for ensuring the quality of the products provided by the supplier is consistent with the agreed-upon requirements. This includes establishing quality standards for raw materials, conducting supplier audits, and monitoring supplier performance to ensure compliance. Also, within our Supplier Quality Department, we ask all our engineer's drive change within both plant manufacturing and component suppliers to resolve complex component issues.



The Welding Specialist Engineer employs all the expertise and knowledge in joining metal components to become accountable on the continuous evaluation of weld integrity, interpreting blueprints, and ensuring the welding standards are followed by suppliers. At launch, the WS Engineer is responsible to provide on-site launch support on high-risk suppliers at their facilities to ensure launch readiness as required. At mass production, the WS Engineer is responsible for managing post launch welding continuous improvement activities, such as AQR welding audits and welding action plans on all applicable suppliers, and to report out the results. The WS Engineer will also be responsible for working cross functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Purchasing to ensure proper designs, suppliers, and manufacturing processes are selected.



Overall, the WS engineer will support the SQE on all problem-solving activities relative to weld issues with internal and external organizations, ensuring welding best practices/ lessons learned are applied across the several different vehicle programs.



Typical job responsibilities for a Chassis Welding Specialist Engineer may include (but not limited to) any of the following:



  • Understand and to interpret blueprints, drawings, and other technical welding specifications to determine welding requirements

  • Ability to analyze Cut&etch results and to provide feedback to the process to improve weld condition.

  • Ability to understand Macrographic analysis to examine the quality of the weld

  • Capable to evaluate and to report out the progress of the weld quality with suppliers during launch phase

  • Lead the implementation of the AQR welding checklist at all applicable suppliers in the group

  • Ensure the welding best practices/lesson learned are applied across the different suppliers with similar welding applications

  • Support SQE on troubleshooting weld quality issues with welding techniques or equipment

  • Establish close relationships with assigned suppliers and actively drive welding continuous improvement activities

  • Initiate and follow-up on corrective action plans for welding and verify effectiveness on-site

  • Assist in educating suppliers on Stellantis systems and welding requirements

  • Work with Engineering and Supplier Organizations to alleviate discrepancies in product/welding specifications and evaluate cost reduction opportunities



Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor of Welding Engineering Degree from a Welding Engineering accredited program. (Any other Engineering Degree with experience in welding or a welding specialization may also be considered)

  • Minimum of 8 years of welding experience in Automotive, Engineering, Manufacturing, or Supplier Quality area

  • Proficient interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a cross functional team environment

  • Basic knowledge on ANSI Z49.1.2021 standard to cover all aspects of safety and health in the welding environment

  • Strong level of knowledge on ARC, MIG and SPOT welding applications

  • Creative problem-solving ability and results orientated approach

  • Interpretate and comprehend CQI-15 audit results to cover all variations of welding, intended to provide a common approach to a welding management

  • Ability to travel within the USA, Mexico and Canada (up to 40% travel may be required from time to time)


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Certified Welding Engineer by the AWS

  • Green Belt / Black Belt Certification
