Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat seeks an experienced Welding Engineer to oversee supplier welding in the construction of nuclear submarines. You will audit supplier operations, review welding procedures, and provide technical guidance while collaborating with SUPSHIP, NAVSEA, and internal teams.

The role requires at least 5 years of engineering experience in industrial welding and willingness to travel to supplier sites up to monthly. Strong communication and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering/Engineering Technology in Mechanical, Welding, Metallurgical or Materials (metallic focus).
  • Minimum 5 years of postgraduate engineering experience in industrial welding environments, shipbuilding or heavy fabrication.
  • Willingness to travel to supplier locations (up to 1 week at a time, up to monthly).

Responsibilities

  • Audit supplier welding operations for contract and technical compliance.
  • Follow up on audit findings and resolve issues impacting hardware.
  • Review and approve supplier welding procedures per specs and standards.
  • Evaluate and disposition vendor information requests.
  • Provide welding training, technical guidance, and ongoing supplier support.
  • Communicate welding/fabrication issues to SUPSHIP, NAVSEA and Electric Boat stakeholders.
  • Travel to supplier locations as needed (up to 1 week, monthly).
