Job summary

Challenge Manufacturing is seeking a Welding Engineer to advance welding techniques, procedures and production processes for automotive components. You will work on GMAW, RSW and DAW methods with robotic systems, developing schedules and training materials while leading new line launches.

The role requires BS in Welding Engineering or equivalent, 1–3 years of welding manufacturing experience, and a strong focus on quality, safety and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• BS Welding Engineering or equivalent with welding process knowledge and standards.
• 1–3 years welding manufacturing experience; automotive experience preferred.
• RSW, GMAW, DAW on various steels.
• Robotic welding experience; ABB/Fanuc preferred.
• Destructive testing setup and training experience.
• 5+ years RSW/GMAW/DAW in automotive welding preferred.
• GMAW/RSW on steel and aluminum experience.
• UT device experience preferred.
• Developing and writing work instructions for welding and inspection.
• Excellent planning, organization and MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Maintain existing welding process to Challenge Manufacturing standards.
• Reduce costs via continuous improvement for safety, quality and productivity.
• Define recommended welding spare parts.
• Develop and maintain weld parameter/setup sheets.
• Support and lead new line launch verification projects.
• Work with maintenance and destruct staff to improve weld quality.
• Implement and monitor products in production equipment.
• Drive standardization across GMAW, RSW, DAW, SPR, FDS processes.
• Develop training documentation for joining processes related to customer quality.
• Troubleshoot welding issues on production tooling.
• Develop welding schedules for GMAW, RSW, DAW on ferrous and nonferrous materials.
• Participate in design reviews for upcoming projects.
• Interface with new equipment vendors and customers.
