Job summary

Genuine Search Group is seeking a Welding Application Engineer to develop, optimize, and implement robotic welding processes across multiple manufacturing projects. You will collaborate with customers, sales, engineering, and manufacturing teams to deliver efficient, repeatable, and high-quality welding solutions.

The ideal candidate has a strong welding and automation background, experience with GMAW/FCAW, and a passion for process improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot robotic welding applications to meet quality, productivity, and cost objectives.
  • Analyze customer requirements and recommend welding processes, equipment, and automation solutions.
  • Optimize welding parameters including travel speed, voltage, amperage, wire feed speed, shielding gas, torch angle, and joint design.
  • Support robot programming, process validation, and production startup activities.
  • Conduct weld trials, evaluate results, and implement process improvements to boost throughput and reduce defects.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure project success.
  • Provide technical support during customer demonstrations, installations, and production launches.
  • Assist in developing welding procedures, work instructions, and application documentation.
  • Investigate welding quality issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Stay updated with advancements in welding technologies, consumables, automation, and best practices.
  • Travel to customer sites as required for application support, commissioning, and training.

Position Description: Welding Application Engineer

Position Summary

We are seeking a Welding Application Engineer to support the development, optimization, and implementation of robotic welding processes for a variety of manufacturing applications. This role is ideal for candidates ranging from recent engineering graduates with welding knowledge to seasoned professionals with extensive robotic welding experience. The successful candidate will work closely with customers, sales, engineering, and manufacturing teams to develop efficient, repeatable, and high-quality welding solutions.

The ideal candidate has a strong technical foundation in welding processes and a passion for continuous process improvement, automation, and customer success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot robotic welding applications to achieve quality, productivity, and cost objectives.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of GMAW (MIG), FCAW, and/or other common arc welding processes.
  • Understanding of welding metallurgy, weld quality, and process fundamentals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer interaction skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Preferred

  • Experience developing or optimizing robotic welding applications.
  • Knowledge of industrial robots such as FANUC, ABB, Yaskawa Motoman, KUKA, or Universal Robots.
  • Experience with robotic offline programming or simulation software.
  • Familiarity with welding power sources, wire feeders, torch cleaning systems, seam tracking, vision systems, and other welding automation technologies.
  • Experience with fixture design and manufacturing processes.
  • AWS welding certifications or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credentials are a plus.
Experience

Entry-Level Candidates

  • Internship, co-op, laboratory, or academic experience involving welding, robotics, manufacturing, or automation.
  • Demonstrated interest in robotic welding, manufacturing technology, or process improvement.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.

Experienced Candidates

  • 5+ years of experience developing and optimizing robotic welding applications in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated success improving weld quality, cycle time, equipment utilization, and overall process efficiency.
  • Experience launching new robotic welding cells and supporting production environments.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on complex applications.
