The Feldmeier Equipment, Inc. Welding Engineer will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of advanced welding systems across manual, robotic, and cobot processes in a manufacturing setting in Syracuse, NY.

Responsibilities include programming and optimizing robotic welding, establishing WPS/PQR, ensuring ASME and customer specification compliance, and driving data-driven process improvements with cross-functional teams in quality, maintenance, and production.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in welding or related engineering field.
  • 0–2 years welding engineering experience in fabrication/manufacturing.
  • Experience with robotic welding programming and automation technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and stainless fabrication.
  • Knowledge of welding metallurgy and distortion control.
  • Experience with robotic process optimization, machine vision, seam tracking, or adaptive control systems.
  • CWI or CWE or robotic programming certifications preferred.

  • Investigate weld failures and metallurgical issues through root cause analysis.
  • Support NDE and destructive testing activities.
  • Develop corrective actions for quality concerns and recurring weld defects.
  • Ensure compliance with ASME Section IX and customer requirements.

Job description

The Welding Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, optimization, and continuous improvement of advanced welding systems and processes across manual, robotic, and collaborative robotic (cobot) manufacturing operations. This role serves as the technical authority for welding automation, programming, process control, metallurgy, weld quality, and production performance. The Welding Engineer works closely with manufacturing, engineering, quality, and maintenance teams to develop robotic welding applications, integrate new technologies, troubleshoot complex welding challenges, and improve productivity while ensuring compliance with ASME and customer specifications. This position plays a key role in advancing automation strategies through the implementation of robotic welding cells, cobot applications, and data-driven process improvements.

Robotic & Cobot Welding

Ideal Qualifications

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, and maneuvering up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and platforms for elevated work.
  • Walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, balancing, stooping, lie down inside or under vessel and twisting while performing required job tasks.
  • Comfortable in chemically Hazardous Situations.
  • Being mindful of chemical safety and use proper PPE when required.
  • Ability to grasp welding torch while welding parts for brief periods to long periods of time.
Salary Description

$75,000.00-$95,000.00
