Qualifications

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Welding Engineer to support manufacturing operations at our Middlebury, Indiana facility. This position will be responsible for developing, improving, and supporting welding processes to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of welding processes, manufacturing principles, and continuous improvement, along with the ability to work closely with production, quality, maintenance, and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and optimize welding processes for production.
  • Provide engineering support to manufacturing and production teams.
  • Troubleshoot welding, equipment, tooling, and process-related issues.
  • Develop and maintain welding procedures, work instructions, and process documentation.
  • Assist with the design and improvement of welding fixtures, tooling, and equipment.
  • Analyze weld quality and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Work closely with Quality to address defects, corrective actions, and quality concerns.
  • Support new product launches and engineering changes as needed.
  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement, cost reduction, and efficiency initiatives.
  • Evaluate welding equipment, technology, and automation opportunities.
  • Ensure welding processes meet applicable quality and safety requirements.
  • Train and provide technical guidance to production personnel when needed.
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation and communicate technical information effectively.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferably with welding or metal fabrication.
  • Strong understanding of welding processes, materials, and weld quality.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and weld symbols.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with production, quality, maintenance, and engineering teams.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with standard engineering and Microsoft Office software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with MIG/MAG, resistance welding, or other production welding processes.
  • Experience with robotic or automated welding systems.
  • Familiarity with welding standards, procedures, and quality requirements.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Welding certifications or familiarity with AWS standards is a plus.
  • Experience with fixture/tooling design and implementation.
