Job summary

GTI Fabrication is seeking a highly experienced Weld Engineer to lead the design, control, and continuous improvement of modular fabrication processes for enclosures and structural weldments. You will develop weld mappings, work instructions, and fixtures using SolidWorks/AutoCAD, aligning engineering intent with production capability.

This onsite role in Phoenix, AZ requires AWS CWI, Lean/Six Sigma experience, ISO9001 knowledge, and cross‑functional collaboration with Engineering, Operations,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Weld Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in weld engineering and manufacturing engineering for modular fabrication, defense, energy, or industrial equipment sectors.
  • AWS CWI certification active; NDE experience a plus.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD for 3D modeling, 2D drafting, and GD&T.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
  • Demonstrated success in process development and production scaling.
  • Hands‑on with containerization, modular product platforms, and structural weldments.
  • Knowledge of ISO9001 quality systems and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes for modular systems, enclosures, and steel structures.
  • Develop weld mapping and work instructions.
  • Use CAD tools to design fixtures, tooling, and work‑holding solutions.
  • Translate engineering design requirements into robust production processes.
  • Lead NPI efforts from prototype to full-rate production.
  • Apply Lean to reduce waste, improve flow, and optimize floor layouts.
  • Integrate automated and digital manufacturing technologies where applicable.
  • Mentor technicians and junior engineers in manufacturing engineering methods.

Position Overview

GTI Fabrication is seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Weld Engineer to lead the design, control, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes in a modular fabrication environment. This individual contributor role focuses on developing scalable, efficient production methods for custom enclosures, containerized systems, and structural steel weldments. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Lean Manufacturing, and quality systems such as ISO9001. The Weld Engineer will work cross‑functionally with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure fabrication manufacturability, cost‑effectiveness, and regulatory compliance across the product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes for modular fabricated systems, containerized enclosures, and steel structures
  • Develop weld mapping and work instructions
  • Use CAD tools (SolidWorks and AutoCAD) to design fixtures, tooling, and work‑holding solutions to support scalable production
  • Translate engineering design requirements into robust and efficient production processes
  • Lead new product introduction (NPI) efforts from prototype through full‑rate production
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce waste, improve flow, and optimize floor layouts
  • Integrate automated and digital manufacturing technologies where applicable
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to evaluate manufacturability and ensure alignment between engineering intent and production capability
  • Utilize ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) to manage process documentation and support real‑time operations visibility
  • Mentor technicians and junior engineers in best practices for manufacturing engineering
Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Weld Engineering
  • Experience in weld engineering and manufacturing engineering, preferably in modular fabrication, defense, energy, or industrial equipment sectors
  • AWS CWI certification that is active; NDE experience a plus
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD for 3D modeling, 2D drafting, and GD&T
  • Strong working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies
  • Demonstrated success in process development, design for manufacturability, and production scaling
  • Hands‑on experience with containerization, modular product platforms, and structural weldments
  • Knowledge of ISO9001 quality systems and compliance standards
  • Exceptional analytical, problem‑solving, and project management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in containerized HVAC, power distribution, or control system enclosures
  • Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication, and industrial coatings
  • Certification in Lean Six Sigma, PMP, or related process improvement disciplines
  • Experience with CFD/FEA simulation tools
Working Conditions
  • This is a full‑time onsite position based in Phoenix, AZ
  • Work takes place in both offices and fabrication floor environments
  • May require up to 5 % travel to customer sites or GTI facilities
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs and walk fabrication areas
