Summary
Plans, lays out, and performs complex TIG welding (GTAW) and MIG Welding (GMAW) on a variety of parts and components such as tubes, ducts, and other products. Welds various types of metal and alloys in all positions to meet uniformity, strength, vacuum tightness, and pressure requirements. Certified to work on Aerospace and Military parts. Trains other employees and works with NPI to launch new products.
Hours: Friday through Sunday, 5:00am to 5:30pm (includes 25% shift differential!)
Requirements
Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Perform a variety of setups and welding on parts, including Aerospace and Military applications, independently.
- Follow safety rules, PPE, OSHA standards, and report unsafe conditions.
- Review orders, routers, job travelers, and inspection instructions to determine operation sequencing, process methods, materials, and equipment.
- Prepare work-piece surfaces before and after welding using cleaners, hand, and power tools.
- Set up weld materials and equipment. Install workpieces onto holders. Trim workpieces as needed.
- Perform TIG and MIG welding on various metal alloys in different positions with a consistent bead.
- Monitor workpieces and equipment during welding to detect issues.
- Conduct visual inspections and make necessary adjustments.
- Use computer systems to clock in/out, record process data, and complete forms.
- Handle inventory, including retrieving, moving, and storing materials and tooling.
- Train employees on equipment operation.
- Collaborate with NPI teams on new process development and documentation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment following 5S standards.
- Participate in Lean initiatives to eliminate waste.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of GTAW precision welding experience.
- Ability to pass AWS D17.1 qualification within 30 days.
- Meet Class A and C requirements with Penetrant and X-Ray Inspection; pass annual visual exam.
- Proficient in welding various alloys, material thicknesses (0.030 to 0.75 inches).
- Operate GTAW and GMAW equipment, hand/power tools, band saw, racks, and pallet jacks.
- Knowledge of wire and filler materials, joint setup, and purging for steel, aluminum, and exotic materials.
- Knowledge of torch types, shielding gases, welding voltage types, and tungsten electrodes.
- Ability to weld in various positions, including flat, horizontal, and inclined.
- Proficient in English reading, writing, and communication.
- Intermediate blueprint reading skills.
- Ability to visually inspect workpieces.
- Math skills including arithmetic and geometry.
- Logical reasoning to evaluate solutions and approaches.
- Cooperative, professional attitude, and ability to work independently.
- This position involves access to ITAR-controlled information; U.S. person status required.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience welding aluminum and titanium per AWS D17.1.
- Aerospace weld fabrication experience preferred.
- Completion of GTAW/GMAW training through vocational or apprenticeship programs preferred.
