Responsibilities
General Statement: To maintain, operate, repair, build, and rebuild plant infrastructure, tools, tooling, assemblies, production parts, experimental parts, and systems pertaining to work by means of welding within the individual's skill set and/or with proper training. Team with others to weld, fabricate, inspect, rework all types and materials to ensure the timely delivery of quality products to the customer. Tasks performed will require product conveyance, multi-tasking, and machine operation.
- Duties include: Weld, fabricate, rework, and maintain tools, tooling, assemblies, manufacturing parts, production/experimental items, and plant infrastructure of all types and materials.
- Effectively communicate and cooperate with operations and other support functions.
- Work in conformance with local, state, and federal codes and regulations, blueprints, specifications, trade practices, shop practices, and verbal or written instructions.
- Maintain any licenses or certificates as required by local, state, and federal codes and regulations within the geographical area, as pertains to the individual skill set performing such work.
- Operate equipment such as scissor lifts, boom lifts, forklifts, remote overhead crane, weld condition machines, sandblasters, brake press/shears, and stress relief ovens as applicable.
- Perform work on aerial platforms, railcars, and elevated structures and scaffolding as applicable. Train on new methods and advanced technologies.
Level A Tooling Welder includes:
- Plan, estimate, sequence, and perform tasks required for programming, fabricating, welding, assembling, maintaining, inspecting, and repairing all types of tools.
- Use processes such as cutting, grinding, spotting, painting, abrasive blasting, hand finishing, shaping, bending, drilling, reaming, tapping, layout, welding, stress relief ovens, inspection, setup, and operate all types of fabrication and measurement equipment.
- Coordinate, plan, estimate, and sequence work with other employees. Use and interpret tool and engineering drawings, CAD models, sketches, templates, manuals, digital data, and handbooks.
- Understand and perform material preparation, welding processes, and correct usage of amperage, voltage, pressure gauges, tips, brazing, soldering, and bonding materials.
- Perform welding processes including SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW, TIP TIG, plasma arc cutting, and vacuum tight welding of various alloys and metals.
- Ensure all welds are visually and functionally acceptable per industry standards across all thickness ranges.
- Perform welding with various alloys and metals including steel, stainless steel, titanium, invar, aluminum, tool steel, and Kirk site. Maintain weld certifications.
- Perform basic shop math and pass yearly eye exams.
- Perform routine minor machine maintenance daily.
- Manufacturing Welder: capable of all welding functions, including TIG welding of various metals for experimental and production parts.
- Maintain AWS certifications and read applicable weld symbols, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
- Document non-conforming conditions for Material Review Board action.
- Perform Class A TIG welds passing radiographic, penetrant, and pressure tests. Maintain weld certifications.
