Job summary

Avail Staffing is seeking shipyard structural welders with shipfitter experience to join our growing team in Norfolk, VA. Candidates must pass a stick weld test in 2g, 3g and 4g and have at least 5 years of welding in a shipyard environment.

Experience with aluminum welding is a plus; applicants will read blueprints, prepare metal, perform SMAW, GMAW and FCAW welding, and ensure quality through inspection while upholding safety standards in an outdoor shipyard setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years welding in shipyard environment.
• Proficiency in SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW welding techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings.
• Ability to work in outdoor shipyard setting with exposure to weather and noise.
• Physically capable of heavy lifting and working at elevated heights.

Responsibilities

• Read and follow technical drawings to determine welding procedures and measurements.
• Cut, grind, and prep metal components for welding.
• Welding using SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW techniques.
• Inspect welds for defects and ensure quality standards.
• Precisely position and align components for structural integrity.
• Follow safety regulations and wear protective gear.
• Operate in tight spaces within ship hulls.
• Welding at elevated heights as required.
