Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Production Welder to perform in-house welding on large structural components for advanced superconducting magnets. You will read drawings, set up processes, and weld in multiple positions.

This full-time onsite role requires 5+ years of welding experience, training in blueprint reading and fabrication, and proficiency with GTAW, GMAW, SMAW. Competitive pay ($30–$41/hr) plus equity and benefits is offered.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years' experience as a welder on large structural systems and tooling
  • Experience with large metallic structures and manufacturing processes related to welding
  • Experience in producing welds to pass industry standard requirements
  • Experience welding stainless steel
  • Experience using GTAW process to weld copper
  • Must have training or certification in blueprint reading and fabrication, GMAW, GTAW, SMAW

Responsibilities

  • Weld and inspect large metallic structures and tooling within specified timelines and budgets
  • Set up welding processes as per specifications, incl. determining the correct equipment to use and methods based on the requirements
  • Read and analyze drawings and take detailed measurements to plan the project layout
  • Cut and join material
  • Perform hand welding or semi-automated welding. Utilize advanced forms of welding when needed. Weld components in vertical, flat, and overhead positions
  • Provide manufacturability feedback to design engineers for weld geometries and material selection
  • Perform welding equipment qualification trials
  • Troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing discrepancies with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Follow safety procedures at all times

Join the power movement as a Production Welder

This individual is responsible for performing manufacturing in-house welding work for cutting edge high-field superconducting magnets.

The specific hours and pay differentials are:
  • Weekday second shift (Monday-Friday, 2 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.): 10%
  • Weekday third shift (Monday–Friday, 10 p.m. – 6:30 a.m.): 15%
  • Weekend first shift (Friday, Saturday, Sunday 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.): 15%
  • Weekend second shift (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 6 p.m. – 6 a.m.): 30%

What you\'ll do:

What we’re looking for:

  • Documented Training or Certification in most of the following: Blueprint Reading andFabrication, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW),Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Advanced Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
  • 5+ years\' experience as a welder on large structural systems and tooling
  • Experience with large metallic structures and manufacturing processes related to welding
  • Experience in producing welds to pass industry standard requirements
  • Experience welding stainless steel
  • Experience using GTAW process to weld copper

Bonus points for:

  • Experience in welding for pressure vessel, aerospace, and/or nuclear applications
  • GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, Electron Beam and Laser Welding Experience
  • Experience operating mechanized or automated welding equipment
  • The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Knowledge of various forms of welding equipment and procedures
  • The capacity to work unsupervised
  • A detailed understanding of mathematical and numerical data and calculations
  • Project and time management

Must-have requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Perform activities such as stooping, typing, standing, and sitting for extended periods of time
  • Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenics
  • Willingness to travel occasionally or do required nights/weekends/on-call

$30 - $41 an hour
