Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking an experienced Welder for nights and weekend shifts with differential pay. The role is based in Devens, MA, within Corporate Operations – Operations - Manufacturing.

This full-time, on-site position involves welding large metallic structures and tooling, reading drawings, and ensuring quality within schedules. You will setup welding processes, perform both manual and semi-automated welding, and troubleshoot manufacturing discrepancies.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience as a welder on large structural systems and tooling.
• Ability to read and analyze drawings and take detailed measurements to plan layouts.
• Experience welding stainless steel and copper using GTAW/GMAW/SMAW where applicable.
• Must pass safety requirements and maintain strict attention to details.

Responsibilities

• Weld and inspect large metallic structures and tooling within timelines and budgets.
• Set up welding processes per specifications and determine correct equipment and methods.
• Read drawings and take measurements to plan project layout; cut and join material.
• Perform hand welding or semi-automated welding and use advanced welding techniques as needed.
• Weld components in vertical, flat, and overhead positions; provide manufacturability feedback to design engineers.

What you'll do:

• Weld and inspect large metallic structures and tooling within specified timelines and budgets
• Set up welding processes as per specifications, incl. determining the correct equipment to use and methods based on the requirements
• Read and analyze drawings and take detailed measurements to plan the project layout
• Cut and join material
• Perform hand welding or semi-automated welding.
• Utilize advanced forms of welding when needed.
• Weld components in vertical, flat, and overhead positions
• Provide manufacturability feedback to design engineers for weld geometries and material selection
• Perform welding equipment qualification trials
• Troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing discrepancies with a focus on continuous improvement
• Follow safety procedures at all times

Pay:

• Weekday second shift (Monday-Friday, 2 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.): 10%
• Weekday third shift (Monday–Friday, 10 p.m. – 6:30 a.m.): 15%
• Weekend first shift (Friday, Saturday, Sunday 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.): 15%
• Weekend second shift (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 6 p.m. – 6 a.m.): 30%

What we’re looking for:

• Documented Training or Certification in most of the following: Blueprint Reading and Fabrication, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Advanced Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
• 5+ years' experience as a welder on large structural systems and tooling
• Experience with large metallic structures and manufacturing processes related to welding
• Experience in producing welds to pass industry standard requirements
• Experience welding stainless steel
• Experience using GTAW process to weld copper
• Bonus points for: Experience in welding for pressure vessel, aerospace, and/or nuclear applications
• Bonus points for: GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, Electron Beam and Laser Welding Experience
• Bonus points for: Experience operating mechanized or automated welding equipment
• Bonus points for: The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation

Must-have requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
• Perform activities such as stooping, typing, standing, and sitting for extended periods of time
• Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenics
• Willingness to travel occasionally or do required nights/weekends/on-call

$30 - $41 an hour. Salary range for this full-time position + equity + benefits. The actual salary will depend on level, location, qualifications, and experience. The range displayed on each job posting reflects new hire salaries for the position across all US locations.
