Job summary

Altron Automation is seeking a MIG Welder/Fabricator to fabricate, weld, finish and inspect metal components for Altron equipment. You will read drawings, set up MIG and TIG welds, perform minor machining, and support production schedules.

This role emphasizes safety, quality, and teamwork in a busy shop environment; you will train with experienced welders and contribute to continuous improvement while maintaining a clean, organized fabrication area.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Strong mechanical and mathematical aptitude.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, sketches, and work instructions.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a team.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to participate in continuing education and work extra hours as production needs require.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders and safety data sheets to plan welding operations.
  • Clean and prepare parts before welding.
  • Set up and operate MIG and TIG welding equipment to weld, repair, join, or fabricate parts per drawings.
  • Perform component fit-up, seam finishing, drilling, tapping and minor machining as required.
  • Inspect completed parts to verify conformance with specifications.
  • Move material and support production schedules; assist with workload planning.
  • Support quality systems and maintain a safe, organized fabrication area.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities.

JOB SUMMARY

The MIG Welder / Fabricator is responsible for fabricating, welding, finishing, and inspecting metal components and weldments used in Altron equipment. This position interprets drawings and work instructions, prepares and fits components, operates MIG and TIG welding equipment, performs minor machining and finishing operations, and supports production schedules, quality requirements, and a safe and organized work environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Welding and Fabrication:
  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
  • Clean and prepare parts before welding.
  • Set up and operate MIG and TIG welding equipment to weld, repair, join, or fabricate parts according to drawings, sketches, or work instructions.
  • Perform component fit-up, seam finishing, drilling, tapping, and other minor machining functions as required.
  • Examine and measure completed parts to identify defects and verify conformance with specifications.
Production and Shop Support:
  • Move material using appropriate equipment throughout the work area as needed.
  • Work to established job budgets and schedules.
  • Assist with workload scheduling and recommend tooling needs that may improve efficiency.
  • Assist in training less experienced employees in setup methods and quality production standards.
  • Support other departments as needed to meet production requirements.
Quality, Safety, and Continuous Improvement:
  • Support Altron's Quality Systems and applicable quality requirements.
  • Follow established safety practices and contribute to a safe working environment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized fabrication area.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
