Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a skilled welder for on-site roles in Huntsville. The candidate will perform welding on aluminum, steel, and alloys, read engineering drawings, and ensure conformance to specifications to support launch vehicle manufacturing.

The position requires 3+ years in laser welding, basic GD&T knowledge, and U.S. citizenship or authorized residency. Relocation assistance and shift options are available as noted in the job posting.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years experience in Laser welding
  • Understand blue print drawings and tolerances
  • Basic GD&T knowledge
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Responsibilities

  • Performs welding on aluminum, steel, and alloys to required tolerances.
  • Interprets engineering drawings and tolerances to determine welds.
  • Monitors quality using statistical processes and control procedures.
  • Joins metal parts to form permanent bonds.
  • Welds components using gas welders and gas torches; may use friction stir welding (FSW).
  • Uses electrical currents or friction heat to bond metals.
  • Observes tests on welded surfaces to verify quality.
  • Sets up and operates large motion-controlled machines for friction stir welds on launch vehicles.
  • Performs periodic maintenance on machines with pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
  • Accurately uses micrometers, calipers, and torque wrenches.

Responsibilities


  • Performs welding processes on aluminum, steel, and alloy parts and assemblies to required tolerances using welding metals and metal alloys and precision blending using hand tools to prepare metallic surfaces for welding and non-destructive evaluation.

  • Determines layouts and welds parts and assemblies according to engineering drawings and specifications.

  • Monitors and verifies quality in accordance with statistical processes or other control procedures.

  • Joins metal parts to form a permanent bond.

  • Welds metal components and parts using standard specialized equipment such as gas welders and gas torches and may also utilize friction stir welding (FSW) methods using solid-state joining.

  • Uses electrical currents or friction to create heat and bond metals.

  • Observes tests on welded surfaces to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.

  • Set up and operate large, motion-controlled machines to create friction stir welds on launch vehicles.

  • Perform periodic maintenance on machines with complex pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.

  • Accurately use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and torque wrenches.

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical.
