Description

As a Welder III - Tank Welder, you will perform advanced tank fit-up and welding operations with a focus on producing structurally sound, watertight assemblies. You will independently interpret tank fabrication prints, fit and position tank components, perform multiple weld types and positions, identify and repair nonconforming welds, and prepare completed units for testing and downstream operations.

Requirements

• Education: High School Diploma/GED required
• Certifications: D1.1 structural certification and D1.3 11-guage certification.
• Experience: 5+ years experience as a MIG welder and one year of continuous experience in a manufacturing environment required
• Reading Ability: Must be able to read and understand English
• Independently perform tank welding operations and follow the required sequence of operations for assigned work centers.
• Locate, read, and interpret tank fabrication prints to determine weld type, location, length, and component requirements.
• Fit up tank assemblies with little to no assistance.
• Use levels and squares to verify tank components are positioned and welded to specification.
• Perform watertight long fillet, long vertical-down, butt, and other required welds.
• Produce quality welds in required positions, including work performed from stools or creepers.
• Weld around flanges to a watertight standard.
• Identify nonconforming weld conditions, including undercut, overlap, base-metal gouging, and overgrinding.
• Perform appropriate weld repairs for assigned tank welding operations.
• Prepare completed units for testing and inspection.
• Identify potential problems that could affect downstream operations and take action within established procedures.
• Operate cranes and forklifts after completing required training and certification to position tank components, skids, and materials.
• Perform specialized primary- and secondary-tank setup and fitment operations applicable to the assigned work center.
• Perform final welding and prepare completed units for the paint process when assigned to the finish cell.
• Perform structural welding operations associated with double-stack tanks, including X-braces and end-cap installation, when applicable.
• Support pre-fit and structural welding activities for double-stack tank assemblies when applicable.
• Perform work across sub, base, and applicable tank welding work centers with minimal assistance.
• Safely operate crane equipment after completing required training.
• Maintain awareness of forklift and crane operations and follow designated aisles, work zones, and storage areas.
• Safely operate power and hand tools, measuring devices, and work-center equipment, and maintain proper tool storage in accordance with 5S requirements.
• Use required welding PPE, including welding helmets, gloves, aprons, and other work-center-specific protective equipment.
• Provide flexible support across all production areas as needed.
• Work safely around forklifts, cranes, production aisles, work zones, and material storage areas.
• Understand and follow established quality standards and workmanship requirements.
