Job summary

Ice Industries seeks an experienced welder/fitter to set up large-scale tank jobs, perform long airtight welds, and ensure specifications are met. New hires enter an internal training program to develop into successful tank welders/fitters.

Responsibilities include welding tanks per procedures, blueprint-driven setups, quality checks, and safe crane operation, with opportunities to work on various components and assemblies in a manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; welding certificate preferred.
  • Advanced MIG and/or TIG welding fundamentals are required.
  • Must be able to perform continuous 36-inch welds.
  • Advanced blueprint reading is required.
  • Must understand general tolerances.
  • Layout welder skills are a plus.
  • Advanced math skills in addition, subtraction, and multiplication are a plus.
  • Welding, setup, and tank experience in manufacturing is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform welding operations on tanks following proper procedures.
  • Setup job properly following the given blueprint and specifications.
  • Input labor into the computer system.
  • Perform quality checks and inspections on product.
  • Safely operate overhead cranes.
  • Use power drills to drill/ream holes in pole sections as required by drawings.
  • Welds other products in the area using the designated process.
  • Assemble two-piece developments.
  • Determine amperage/voltage settings, feed rate, weld procedures, weld size, penetration.
  • Grind/clean seams to ensure penetration and UT quality weld.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on seam weld machines.
  • Adjust amperage/voltage/speeds/machine pressures during welding.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

General Function

This person would be responsible for setting up large-scale tank jobs, performing long, airtight welds, and ensuring the quality meets specifications. New hires will undergo an internal training program to be given the tools to become successful tank welders/fitters.

  • Perform welding operations on tanks following proper procedures
  • Setup job properly following the given blueprint and specifications
  • Properly input labor into the computer system
  • Perform quality checks and inspections on product
  • Safely operate overhead cranes
  • Uses power drills to drill and/or ream holes in pole sections as required by drawings
  • Welds other products in his or her area using either process
  • Knowledge of cross squaring is a plus
  • Assembles two-piece developments.
  • Determines amperage and voltage settings, feed rate settings, weld procedures, weld size, and amount of penetration required.
  • Grinds and/or cleans seams to ensure the required penetration and necessary UT quality weld.
  • Performs daily, weekly, and monthly operator preventative maintenance on seam weld machines.
  • Adjust amperage, voltage, speed rates, and machine pressures constantly throughout the welding process to compensate for variations from the cutting and bending operations and the material variations.
  • Other duties assigned.
Required Education, Skills, And Experience
  • A high school diploma or equivalent; a welding certificate is highly preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of MIG and/or TIG welding fundamentals is required.

  • Must be capable of bending, stooping, crawling under or over, and frequent climbing (stairs).
