Job summary

ATG is seeking a Welder II to read shop drawings and travelers, lay out and fabricate complex metal products in accordance with AWS, ASME and customer specs. You will weld carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloys, using GTAW, FCAW, and LBW processes, with some confined-space work.

The role requires interpreting weld maps, certifying to ASME IX and AWS qualifications, and performing x-ray quality welds. HS diploma and 5+ years experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Reading advanced blueprints and weld symbols is required.
  • Understand GD&T and weld qualification standards (ASME Sect IX, AWS).
  • Able to certify to ASME Sect. IX and AWS qualifications.
  • Capable of x-ray quality welds on various metals with certified processes.

Responsibilities

  • Read and understand basic blueprints for layout, fit up and weld.
  • Interpret travelers, trace materials, and follow weld maps.
  • Complete weldments with tolerances, shrinkage and warpage considerations.
  • Operate shop machinery (band saw, brake press, plasma cutter, etc.).
  • Work with QA/engineering to complete projects on time and within budget.

REPORTS TO: Lead Welder
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
SUMMARY:

Welder II is responsible for reading and interpreting shop drawings and travelers to layout and fabricate complex metal products. They will be familiar with and proficient at welding in accordance with AWS, ASME and Customer specifications on carbon steel, stainless steel and alloy materials using internal shop drawings and/or customer prints.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Able to read and understand basic blueprints for layout, fit up and weld.
  • Complete understanding in the use of ATG’s work order/traveler documentation, material heat number tracing, weld maps, and Quality Management System
  • Must be able to certify to ASME Sect. IX and AWS qualifications
  • Able to perform x-ray quality welds on products fabricated from stainless steel, carbon steel and specialty alloys using certified processes, i.e. GTAW, FCAW, LBW etc.
  • Must be able to occasionally work in confined spaces with limited access and heights.
NO SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities however, direction may be provided to project coordinators, QA and engineering personnel, and to shop personnel. Direction is provided in the spirit of organizing and prioritizing the tasks required to complete projects on time and within budget.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • HS Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience or technical training or equivalent
SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  • Capable of reading advanced blueprints and weld symbols
  • Understanding of GD&T
  • Ability to produce and use fixturing necessary to complete weldments/assemblies.
  • Capable of completing weldments with consideration of tolerances, shrinkage and warpage.
  • Operate shop machinery (band saw, brake press, shear, drill press, plasma cutter, etc.)
  • Advanced understanding of polishing and ability to meet desired surface finish requirements.
  • Advanced ability to layout hole patterns, penetrations, brake lines etc.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and cranes.
  • Ability to operate and/or willingness to learn operation of capacitive discharge weld stud machines.
  • Ability to perform various assembly tasks.
  • The employee must Occasionally lift, carry, and/or move materials weighing up to 50 pounds
