Job summary

Advanced Technology Group in Westminster, CO is seeking a results-oriented mechanical engineer to provide analysis, design, and fabrication support for highly technical projects in a manufacturing environment.

You will perform project engineering activities, interpret complex customer specifications, and develop calculations and documentation to support NQA-1 quality systems while contributing creative, non-traditional methods to meet new project demands.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET) with 3–7+ years of experience.
• Strong machine design and stainless-steel sheet metal design required.
• Solid understanding of core mechanical engineering concepts.
• Experience with manufacturing/DFM/DFA and NQA-1 familiarity.
• Familiarity with Nuclear glovebox, pharmaceutical isolator, or pressure vessel design preferred.
• Ability to write technical reports, procedures and process documents.

Responsibilities

• Design and interpret specifications, data sheets, P&IDs and 3D models.
• Develop 3D models, drawings, and detailed manufacturing plans.
• Prepare calculations to verify design against requirements.
• Participate in technical reviews and may act as technical lead.
• Coordinate with manufacturing to apply DFM/ DFA principles.
• Develop production travelers and shop drawings for fabrication.
• Support production staff and perform factory/site acceptance testing.

REPORTS TO: Lead Mechanical Engineer

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

SUMMARY

• Provides engineering analysis, design, and fabrication support for a variety of highly technical projects in a manufacturing and collaborative team environment.

• Performs project engineering activities related to planning, directing, and testing of products and projects.

• Analyzes and interprets complex customer specifications, including reference to official industry standards.

• Develops technical calculations and documentation in accordance with the company’s NQA-1 quality systems.

• Applies creativity and resourcefulness to develop non-traditional methods and practices to satisfy novel project demands.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Design

• Creates or interprets specifications, data sheets, process flow diagrams, 3D models, 2D drawings, P&ID’s.

• Develops 3D models, drawings, and detailed manufacturing plans.

• Prepares and checks calculations to verify a design against design requirements.

• Participates in technical reviews and project status meetings, may act as the technical lead.

• Coordinates with manufacturing and uses reference standards to incorporate DFM//DFA into design.

• Remains cognizant of current design practices, skills, and industry best practices, and shares knowledge

• Develops standard part, assembly, and product design documentation.

Quality

• Prepares project-related design deliverables and NQA-1 documentation as needed.

• Develops project-related conformance documentation – testing, manuals, plans, etc..

• Produces detailed technical submittal documents to satisfy quality tracking requirements.

• Assists and writes design change notices, deviation requests and non-conformance reports.

Project Engineering

• Works with project teams and customers to ensure the products conform to customer requirements and meet customer needs.

• Plans design activities related to a job, including setting schedule milestones, review points, and deadlines.

• Specifies and quotes complex or non-stock items in support of procurement activities.

• Develops Production Travelers using software tools in conjunction with shop drawings and weld maps for fabrication.

• Supports production staff throughout the fabrication of schedule of a project.

• Performs or oversees factory and site acceptance testing, including traveling to customer facilities.

Other

• Assists in engineering overhead activities – bid support and estimating, CAD administration, engineering standards development, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

• May be required to lead a team of engineers in design, planning, and execution of a project.

• May be required to conduct team, group, or individual training on standards or best practices.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution (3-7+yrs experience).

• Strong machine design and/or stainless-steel sheet metal design required.

• Well-rounded background in core mechanical engineering concepts.

• Strong manufacturing/DFM/DFA background desired.

• Familiarity or experience with Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) standard strongly desired.

• Familiarity or experience with Nuclear Glovebox, Pharmaceutical Isolator, or Pressure Vessel Design desired.

SKILLS and ABILITIES

• Ability to write technical reports, correspondence, procedures and processes.

• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

• Ability to coordinate and communicate with outside suppliers.

• Ability to write technical reports, correspondence, procedures, and process documents.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents such as calculations, specifications and code requirements, and procedure manuals.

• Has In-depth knowledge of diversified, fundamental scientific mechanical engineering concepts, phenomena, and relations.

• Has the knowledge of development and derivation of formulas and relationships, basic assumptions made, and limitations and areas of applicability of established mechanical engineering principles, methods, and techniques.

COMPUTER SKILLS

• Candidate must possess strong computer knowledge and be familiar with standard Microsoft Office software in addition to SolidWorks, PRO/E, AutoCad or other drafting/modeling software. Solidworks strongly preferred.

REASONING ABILITY

• Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

• Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.

• Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
